Everyone comes to mediation from a different place, having had different experiences. Some feel ready to deal with the practicalities and legal implications of their separation and others do not.

At Hope Family Mediation, you will be supported with family law expertise to have what can be difficult conversations in a neutral space. Your needs, priorities, hopes and fears will be considered within supported and structured conversations and the hope is that you can find solutions that work for you and your family and enable you to move forward.

We offer a tailored mediation process and where it will help you, we will introduce you to other professionals who can offer specialist support during mediation. These may include some of the following; family solicitors, counsellors, family therapists, pension or financial  advisors,  parenting specialists, divorce coaches, child counselling, charities who can assist teens and young adults with emotional/mental health issues as well as domestic abuse support.

How can Family Mediation help you?

Some of the frequent comments mediators hear from those considering mediation are set out below. It can all feel very overwhelming. We are here to help and can assist with all of these queries or concerns, and many more. 

  • I have found the separation really difficult to get my head around and  I can’t face dealing with the legal side of things. It all feels overwhelming. I don’t know where to begin.

  • How can we co-parent when we can’t communicate?

  • We have come up with a rough plan for our children but we need help with some elements of this, or support in create a parenting plan.

  • We each have very different ideas of what arrangement would be best for the kids.

Fees & funding

The costs of the mediation process are discussed in the MIAM. The charge for a MIAM is  £125 and includes a follow up pack. A certificate of MIAM attendance (which is the legal document required if you decide that an application to court) can also be provided if necessary. 

You may have heard about the government voucher scheme which is currently offering up to £500 towards mediation costs for every family who is mediating in relation to children issues. The mediator will obtain the voucher on your behalf once you have confirmed your consent to this being applied for. The voucher does not have to be repaid and is not means tested. However, if you have already had the benefit of a voucher, you cannot apply for a second one.
